Shaquille O’Neal had some choice words for Robert Griffin III about his latest commentary on Angel Reese. On Tuesday, the latest episode of the Off The Record podcast hosted by Bailey Jackson and Lachelle Smith dropped. A clip featuring O’Neal has quickly gone viral after he gave Griffin a clear warning concerning Reese, who has become a phenomenon.

Why did Shaquille O’Neal threaten to punch Robert Griffin III?

During his conversation with Jackson and Smith, O’Neal stated that he wanted Griffin to refrain from mentioning Reese’s name on X.

“RG3, tweet another monkey post about my girl Angel Reese and I’m going to punch you in your f**king face, ok?” he said after removing his glasses to look directly into the camera. “It’s enough. Like, I don’t usually do stuff like this, but just stop it, bro.”

O’Neal went on to say that he has reached out to Reese multiple times when Griffin brought mentioned her.

“You got your job. You got your podcast. Leave my Angel Reese alone. I’m the one calling her and telling her not to respond. F**king stop it. That’s the last time, ok? Thank you,” he said.

O’Neal also added that Reese doesn’t hate Caitlin Clarke, which is what RG3 publicly said back in May.

“It’s not real hate. If you look around at what’s going on in this real country, that’s hate. This is sports. I’m not supposed to like you,” O’Neal said. “It’s a shame that all the stuff you did in your life, you’re going to be remembered for your podcast.”

“That should tell you you’re not that f**king great. I don’t want to be remembered for Shaq’s Big Podcast. I do not. Leave those girls alone. You already spoke on it. Let it go,” he added. “I hate you now but for messing with her. Now what? Say something about me. She’s not going to respond because I’m the one calling her, saying, ‘Baby, keep it classy.’ Because she’s not soft by any means, she’s from the streets.”

O’Neal concluded by revealing that he would respect comments about her from someone like WNBA icon Lisa Leslie. He also noted that women and not men, should be the ones initiating in-depth conversations.

“I don’t mind you doing your job as anyone, but don’t pick on that little girl because guess what? I’m her protector. Now pick on me. You pick on me, I’m going to punch you in your f**king face.”

Angel Reese was depicted as a monkey by online haters

A week ago, the popular basketball sports simulation video game NBA 2K released its 2026 NBA and WNBA game covers; Reese was chosen for the latter. She received hate from alleged racists and those who don’t like her online; her image was replaced with a monkey. Griffin posted the fake cover with an extended response on X, intending to defend her.

“Alright. This has got to stop. There is no place for racism in this world. Whether you like a player or not. Angel Reese should never be called or depicted as a Monkey,” it read. “I have been quiet on the Angel Reese front because she shared a video that aided in my wife, kids, family and friends receiving death threats, threats of physical harm to my family and friends and threats of sexual violence to my children on social media and beyond. That will never be okay with me,” Griffin said.

He added: “I never attacked her or her family when I stated and backed up with clear basketball evidence that Angel Reese hates Caitlin Clark. It’s sports. Everybody won’t like each other. People in Angel’s inner circle called me and told me I was right and Angel Reese has grown to hate Caitlin Clark because of the media always asking her about Caitlin and being constantly compared to her.”

In response, Reese and her mother denied that Griffin had any connections with their family and close friends.

“Lying on this app when everybody know the first and last name of everybody in my circle for clout is nastyyyy work,” Reese tweeted.

“Man  stop with the My daughter’s ‘circle’ is so small & tight so I’d be interested 2 know who called U Whomever U say ‘called’ U is not in her circle 2 speak on her feelings towards a media/fandom made up beef.  Just stay on that side bc the doors are closed over here,” Reese’s mother chimed in.

Robert Griffin III has officially bitten off much, much, much more than he can chew. His mouth has written checks that his Black a** can’t cash. He’s tugged on Superman’s cape. There is an indigestible amount of dip on his chip.

BOSSIP has been covering the ongoing drama between the former NFL quarterback and WNBA Chicago Sky baller Angel Reese, as well as the subsequent reactions from social media users and even RGIII’s peers, such as ESPN’s Ryan Clark. However, no one has reacted to Griffin’s comments as forcefully as Shaquille O’Neal. During a recent episode of the Off The Record Podcast with Bailey Jackson and Lachelle Smith, the Lakers’ great took a moment to take off his sunglasses, look directly into the camera, and tell RGIII exactly what would happen to him if he didn’t stop talkin’ s**t about Reese.

“RG3? Tweet another monkey post about my girl Angel Reese and I’m going to punch you in your f***ing face. I don’t usually do stuff like this but just stop it, bro. You’ve got your job, you’ve got your podcast… leave my Angel Reese alone. I’m the one calling her and telling her not to respond. F***ing stop it. That’s the last time. Okay? Thank you. It’s not real hate. If you look around at what’s going on in this real country, that’s hate. This is sports. I’m not supposed to like you!”

Oh, but there’s more…

“It’s a shame that [for] all the stuff that you did in your life, you’re going to be remembered for a podcast. That should tell you that you’re not that f***ing great. Leave those girls alone, you already spoke on it. Let it go. Don’t pick on that little girl. Because guess what? I’m her protector. Now pick on me. And if you pick on me, I’m going to punch you in your f***ing face”.

The “monkey” that Shaq is referring to is a disparaging photoshopped image that RGIII retweeted while allegedly attempting to defend Reese against racist reactions to her being named to the cover of NBA2k26. Peep the podcast in full to see what else was on Shaq’s mind that day…

You would think that Robert Griffin III had learned his lesson speaking on the alleged “hate” that Angel Reese has for her caucasian colleague Caitlin Clark but alas, here we are again. RGIII previously faced the wrath of the wifi when he took to Twitter (we’re never, ever calling it “X”) to present “evidence” of Reese’s deep personal disdain for Clark by using video clips of the two women competing hard to win in a professional sport, something Griffin might not be familiar with.

Recently, Reese was announced as one of the featured covers this year’s wildly popular NBA2k26 video game and per usual, the racist trolls went out of their way to publish some of the most racist and misogynistic reactions to the news. Those reactions included photoshopping Reese off the cover in place of a monkey. So original.

Despite his past transgressions, RGIII attempted to come to Reese’s defense by posting a lengthy tweet that unnecessarily doubled-down on this past claim that Reese hates Clark. Additionally, he accused Reese of promoting violence against his family, sexual assault against his children, and harassment of his family and friends…

With “defenders” like these, who needs haters? If RGIII thinks that Angel’s video repost put his family in mortal danger, what does he think Angel Reese has been dealing with when men like him stoke the fires of racial tension? The call is coming from inside the house! For her part, Reese opted for a more succinct response to the former ball disrespectful diatribe…

Things got so bad for RGIII that Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s daughter Bernice King had to fire up her Twitter machine to tell him to STFU and chill TF out. Not in those words exactly but the energy was clearly there.

We don’t expect Robert Griffin III to learn anything or reflect on his actions and that only goes to show that former ESPN writer Rob Parker was always right, the guy is just a cornball brotha.

It can be lonely at the top, but don’t worry, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will have some company as Angel Reese and Carmelo Anthony join him in sharing the cover of NBA 2K6 for their respective editions of the game.

Building on the momentum from last year, 2K has announced three additional editions of NBA 2K26.

We learned on Tuesday, July 8, that OKC Thunder point guard, 2024-25 Kia Most Valuable Player, 2024-25 NBA Scoring Champ, and most recently Finals MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, will grace the cover of the Standard Edition of NBA 2k26.

Today, July 9, we learned who else will be on the cover of the annual NBA video game.

Joining him will be Angel Reese on the cover of the WNBA Edition of the game, where she will also be debuting her new Reebok signature sneaker, the Angel Reese 1.

The Chicago Sky superstar and recently named WNBA All-Star, spoke on gracing the cover of the game.

“Being on the cover of NBA 2K26 and debuting my first-ever signature shoe with Reebok on that cover, the Angel Reese 1, is more than a milestone—it’s a statement,” said Reese. “It’s about representation and showing young girls they can be confident, bold and take up space unapologetically. To be cemented in NBA 2K history is a special honor that reflects not only my journey but also all the veteran WNBA players who have paved the way before me and the growing impact of the league as a whole. I’m proud to be part of a game that continues to elevate women’s basketball and can’t wait for fans to see how NBA 2K26 brings our game to life like never before.”

Also nabbing a cover is future NBA Hall-of-Famer Carmelo Anthony gracing the Superstar Edition of the game. Last year, Vince Carter had the honor, but it was called the Hall of Fame Edition.

Fans of Anthony, who was widely considered one of the best pure scorers the league has ever seen, will rejoice to see the one-time New York Knick on the cover of NBA 2K26.

Anthony spoke on the honor, thanking fans for riding with him on his 20-year journey.

“For more than 20 years, 2K fans have been a part of my journey,” said Anthony. “Being honored on the cover of NBA 2K26 and inducted into the Hall of Fame in the same year is surreal. It’s a celebration of every chapter, every city that embraced me, every team that believed in me, and every person who’s been part of this ride with me.”
