Trump Posts Racist AI Video Of Hakeem Jeffries And Chuck Schumer After Government Funding Meeting – Blavity
As Republicans and Democrats attempt to hash out a last-minute budget deal to avoid a government shutdown set to begin at midnight on Wednesday, President Donald Trump has intervened in the process in the way that he often does: with misinformation and racism.
After meeting with top congressional Democratic leaders, the president posted a racist, AI-generated video of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, both of New York. The video spreads false narratives about undocumented immigrants, potentially driving a deeper wedge between the leaders of the two parties as they try to negotiate a deal to keep government functions operating.
Trump posts racist, deepfake video of top Congressional Democrats
On Monday, Trump hosted a meeting of the top congressional leaders of both parties. The meeting, which included Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota, House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana, as well as Schumer and Jeffries, was intended to reach a deal on a budget extension to avoid a government shutdown. After the meeting concluded without an agreement, Trump posted a racist video of Jeffries and Schumer on social media.
The video depicts the two standing outside the White House, with a sombrero and mustache superimposed on Jeffries and mariachi music playing. The video appears to be AI-generated, with fake comments by Schumer saying, “Nobody likes Democrats anymore. We have no voters left because of all of our woke, trans bulls**t. Not even Black people want to vote for us anymore.” The deepfake depiction of Schumer continues, “Even Latinos hate us. So, we need new voters, and if we give all these illegal aliens free healthcare, we might be able to get them on our side so they can vote for us.” The comment appears intended to push a false narrative about federal healthcare funding. In reality, undocumented immigrants are not allowed to receive health insurance under the Affordable Care Act or Medicaid, and congressional Democrats are not proposing to change that.

Jeffries responded to Trump’s taunts by calling out his racism and continuing to push for healthcare funding.
“Bigotry will get you nowhere. Cancel the Cuts. Lower the Cost. Save Healthcare. We are NOT backing down,” he posted on X, formerly Twitter, with a photo of Schumer and him outside the White House.

Schumer retweeted Trump’s fake video and responded, “If you think your shutdown is a joke, it just proves what we all know: You can’t negotiate. You can only throw tantrums.”

Jeffries later posted an infamous picture from his campaign account of Trump posing with his hand on the shoulder of Jeffrey Epstein, captioned “This is real.”

As Blavity reported, the White House meeting with top congressional leaders from both parties came as Democrats and Republicans attempt to reach a deal to avoid a government shutdown, which would begin once the current budget expires at the end of Tuesday. Trump’s White House meeting came a week after he canceled a previously scheduled meeting with Democrats, dismissing them as having “unserious and ridiculous demands.” As the two parties’ House delegations have competing bills, neither of which currently has enough votes to pass, the White House meeting was part of a last-ditch effort to avoid a government shutdown. If no deal is passed on Tuesday, the ensuing shutdown would halt many non-essential federal government services and send hundreds of thousands of government workers home without pay; Trump has additionally threatened to lay off federal employees instead of simply furloughing them for the duration of the shutdown.
The stakes for Monday’s White House meeting were therefore very high, making Trump’s childish and racist response all the more shocking. As the president treats the current budget impasse as a joke and an opportunity to push false and racist narratives, the potential impact of Trump’s “unserious and ridiculous” behavior may be felt by Americans across the country if a deal is not made soon.
