Tia Mowry Would Love A ‘Twitches’ Revival, 20 Years Later: ‘I Love That Fantasy World’ – Blavity

While everyone is wondering when or if there’ll be a Sister, Sister reboot, we just had to ask Tia Mowry if she’d be down to reprise her role in Twitches.

The answer? An immediate ‘yes,’ which is perfect as the film will celebrate its 20th anniversary this month. Mowry recently did press as a part of her new partnership with General Mills and Box Tops for Education.

“It was such a fun movie to do because I am also into astrology and magic, I love that fantasy world,” she said in a recent interview with Blavity/Shadow and Act when talking about Twitches. “So to be able to do a movie such as that, and then with your sister was just so magical in itself. Then, to see how, because when you do these things, you never think that it’s going to turn into a classic, and then to see that the movie is still standing 20 years later?”

What is ‘Twitches’ about?

The film Twitches follows twin sisters (Tia and Tamera Mowry), reunited on their 21st birthday, as they use their magic powers to save their kingdom from the forces of darkness. Two years following its success, Twitches Too premiered and followed the twins as they continued working together to strengthen their powers, ultimately using the combined energy to save their home and birth mother from the forces of darkness.

“People have tattoos of the sun and the moon,” Mowry recalled, as the sisters from the film gathered their powers from both entities.

“I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, but again, you know, anything that I could do to make people’s lives feel good, or to inspire them in any kind of way, I feel like I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing,” she added.

On the importance of education

In her latest partnership with General Mills and Box Tops for Education, Mowry is being transparent about the transition parents encounter when it’s time to send their children back to school.

“I’m a mom of two beautiful children, Cairo and Cree, so I really understand how back to school can be totally hectic and overwhelming and chaotic at times, just from getting everybody dressed properly and out the door on time. What I love is [that] I’m just happy to be partnering with General Mills and Box Tops for Education because they want to support families during that transition, you know, going from summer to adjusting to the back-to-school routine. They understand how overwhelming that can be.”

She added, “I just love that they are giving away free snacks during the back-to-school season. And how families can participate in this program is that all they have to do is buy some on-the-go snacks, and they also have an opportunity to download the Box Tops for Education app and scan the receipt. Then you’re also able to give some money back to schools in your community, which I think is so incredibly awesome and cool. They understand how overwhelming it could be for parents, and in any way that we can make the whole process easier, the better. That’s what my partnership is all about.”

For Mowry, when it comes to preparing her children for a new school year, she stresses the importance of ensuring that they are both well-rested and well-fed, along with giving them the unconditional love and support needed to help them put their best foot forward.

Her keys to success and advice to her younger self

“I think walking in authenticity, because there’s only one you, and even though I’m a twin, an identical twin, I’m still a unique original,” Mowry told Blavity when asked what her secret is for not being boxed in as a creative.

“I definitely walk in that, and just the way that I move. For me, it’s not about hopping on a trend; it’s about staying true to who you are, because trends come and go. No matter where I am in my life, when it comes to my career, I always like to look at it in this way. Art imitates life, and life imitates art. I’m going through this journey called life, and any way that I can inspire or give to the art, I want it to resemble some of my own personal experiences, so I can apply it to the art. When I’m able to do that, then it becomes true and authentic. I think it becomes classic as well. When you’re just being yourself, you stand alone, in that sense. You’re not, like, conforming, and you’re just you and yourself. So I credit that to the whole Renaissance, I guess, perspective when it comes to my career.”

As she continues to evolve into womanhood, Mowry offered sound advice to her younger self.

“I would say to her, worry less,” she said. “Your intuition will guide you. All is well, and have fun. Have fun. Life goes by so fast. Life is precious, and everything will land the way that it’s supposed to be. You’re safe, and you will continue to make yourself proud, so just enjoy. Yeah, that’s what I would say.”
