Outback Steakhouse Closes Multiple Locations Across The Country: Find Out More – Blavity
Bloomin’ Brands, the parent company of Outback Steakhouse, has closed down 21 locations as part of an effort to launch a “comprehensive turnaround strategy.”
CNN reported that the company also plans to close 22 stores from three of its other restaurant brands. The closures include Carrabba’s Italian Grill and Bonefish Grill, which are expected to shut down in the next four years.
What changes can customers expect at Outback Steakhouse?
Outback Steakhouse is expecting to bring improvements to the remaining restaurants after closing many of its locations. Per CNN, the restaurant plans to bring new menus to showcase its improved steaks. Outback is also aiming for improved value offers and for a better dining experience.
“Outback Steakhouse has incredible brand equity,” CEO Mike Spanos said, per CNN. “It is the pioneer of the casual steakhouse industry. We have strong brand awareness and a tremendous opportunity to convert that awareness into restaurant visits.”
The restaurants’ remaining locations are all expected to be renovated by 2028. The renovation is expected to bring more appealing interiors, a new-look bar, smaller kitchens and wider areas for pickup.
What’s the financial state of Outback Steakhouse?
In the third quarter of this year, Outback saw a slight increase of .4% in sales, per CNN. In the past two years, however, the restaurant has seen its numbers decline. Spanos said the company is encouraged by the latest data.
“We have great momentum in our business as demonstrated by our third quarter results,” Spanos said, according to the Detroit Free Press. “All four brands drove positive comparable store sales growth for the first time since Q1 2023. Our teams continue to focus on consistency of execution in food quality and the guest experience, the foundation for our turnaround.”
After closing 21 locations in October, Outback still plans to shut down an additional 22 stores, MLive reported. The company hasn’t yet revealed which locations will be closed in the coming months.
