Minaj appears to be feuding with the governor of California over trans rights, with the online tiff seemingly starting with a song.

Minaj takes issue with Newsom’s trans stances, appears to take issue with his song choice

Minaj has recently made or reshared a number of social media posts about California Gov. Gavin Newsom, criticizing his stance on trans rights as part of her broader shift toward right-wing political stances. Although Minaj has focused on the governor’s stance concerning trans children, Minaj seems to have taken issue with a separate post made by Newsom trolling Trump for his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, set to the song “Hiss” by Megan Thee Stallion. The portion of the song played by Newsom contains the lyrics:

“These hoes don’t be mad at Megan/ These hoes mad at Megan’s Law/ I don’t really know what the problem is/ But I guarantee, y’all don’t want me to start/ Bitch, you a p***y, never finna check me every chance you get/ Bet yo weak ass won’t address me.”

The line mentioning “Megan’s Law” is a wordplay by Megan Thee Stallion on her own name and a reference to the federal law requiring that sex offenders register and notify the public of their presence. The lines from the song are also a shot by Megan at Minaj, part of their long-running feud, leading to Minaj taking offense at Newsom for using the audio.

Minaj posts about Newsom, the governor’s communications director responds

Minaj has expressed her dissatisfaction with Newsom through a number of social media posts in recent days. “Shame on new scum” Minaj wrote in one post, making a play on Newsom’s name.

Her posts about Newsom have seemingly drawn at least one response from within the governor’s camp: Newsom’s director of communications, Izzy Gardon, posted a picture of a Minaj T-shirt in a trash can with the caption “Stupid Hoe,” a reference to one of Minaj’s own songs.

Minaj’s right-wing shift gets MAGA support

As Blavity previously reported, Minaj’s online shots against Newsom are part of a pro-MAGA turn that the “Anaconda” rapper has made in recent months. Minaj’s pro-Trump turn started when she posted an endorsement of Trump’s misleading claims about Christian persecution in Nigeria. Minaj’s support for the president’s stance earned her attention from key Trump allies, including the United States ambassador to the United Nations, who arranged for Minaj to appear at an event for the UN to continue her advocacy for the Trump administration’s stance on Nigeria. Since then, Minaj has posted and shared various posts and memes praising right-wing political figures, including Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, as well as Vice President JD Vance. The vice president even chimed in; after Minaj posted “Vance > Rants,” Vance responded, praising Minaj by commenting “Nicki>Cardi” on another of Minaj’s rap beefs.

Minaj has drawn praise from conservatives and criticism and bewilderment from others for her pro-MAGA swing. With the attention that her comments are drawing, it seems likely that Minaj will continue to go after figures like Newsom while tapping into her growing right-wing fan base.
