Neutrogena Product Recall: Find Out In Your Cabinet May Be Impacted – Blavity

Kenvue Brands LLC, the maker of Neutrogena products, is recalling its Makeup Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes after the brand tested positive for bacteria. According to the Food and Drug Administration, the bacteria found in the wipes is known as pluralibacter gergoviae.

The risk level of the recall, per the FDA, is classified as Class II. This means the product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences,” but there is only a small “probability of serious adverse health consequences.”

The recall, issued on Sept. 19, is in effect in the states of Texas, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, according to People. The recalled items are identified with lot code label 1835U6325A.

What did Kenvue Brands LLC say about the recalled Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes?

Kenvue released a statement after the recall, saying “the health and safety of the consumers who use our products is our top priority” and the items are voluntarily recalled “out of an abundance of caution.”

“Despite meeting release specifications, one lot of the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes, 50 [count] may have been impacted by procedural deficiencies observed during manufacturing,” the company said in a statement to People.

What is the bacteria found in the recalled Neutrogena product?

According to Melbec Microbiology, which specializes in studying cosmetics, the bacteria found in the Neutrogena product has been known to cause respiratory diseases or urinary tract issues and eye infections. Pluralibacter gergoviae has become an increasing concern in the cosmetic industry, Kenvue added in its statement.

Another skincare company, DermaRite Industries LLC, recalled some of its products in August due to bacteria known as Burkholderia cepacia, which is linked to “life-threatening infections.” The recalled products included soaps, skin creams and hair products. DermaRite also recalled more than 30 other products on Aug. 27.
