M’Baku shares Shuri’s heavy burden as leader of The Wakandans in the new Avengers: Doomsday teaser. It is the fourth teaser to be released from the upcoming film. All four teasers so far were initially just seen in theaters, ahead of Avatar: Fire and Ash. The other teasers dropped so far have focused on Steve Rogers/Captain America, Thor and the X-Men.

The new teaser shows Shuri (Letitia Wright) and M’Baku (Winston Duke) meet the Fantastic Four as Shuri’s voiceover relates how she must protect her people as the new Black Panther. “I’ve lost everyone that matters to me,” she says. “A king has his duties, to prepare our people for the afterlife. I have mine.”

Her speech is a quick way to get new viewers up to date on the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, in which M’Baku became King of Wakanda, while Shuri kept the mantle of Black Panther.

M’Baku also became a surrogate older brother figure to Shuri after the deaths of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman, who died from cancer in 2022) and Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), who was killed by Namor (Tenoch Huerta).

M’Baku introduces himself to The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as “King M’Baku of Wakanda.” The Thing replies, “Ben, from Yancy Street, between Broome and Grand.”

Namor and the Talokans, including his cousin Namora (Mabel Cadena), also make an appearance.
