Julian Fleming, Ex-College Football Player, Charged With Homicide After Crash That Killed Girlfriend – Blavity
Former Ohio State and Penn State wide receiver Julian Fleming has been charged with multiple felony charges stemming from an ATV crash in May that killed his girlfriend, Alyssa Boyd.
The charges against Fleming include one count of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, one count of homicide by vehicle and one count of aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, according to court documents obtained by TMZ and The Athletic. CBS Sports reported that his bond has been set at $75,000, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for later this month.
What caused the deadly ATV accident?
Fleming, 24, was driving a 2024 Yamaha ATV, and Boyd was the passenger when they struck a deer on the roadway in Columbia Township, Pennsylvania, causing the vehicle to crash, according to a police report, as Blavity reported.
Boyd, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene, and Fleming was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Neither Fleming nor Boyd was wearing safety equipment at the time of the crash, and Fleming’s blood alcohol level was also between 0.10% and 0.16%, according to court documents, above Pennsylvania’s legal limit of 0.08%.
Flemings’ attorney speaks out following charges
His attorney, David Bahuriak, told TMZ Sports that the prosecutor in the case wrongfully charged his client with one of the charges.
“In my view,” Bahuriak said, “the prosecution here took a tragic and unavoidable accident and turned it into a crime when the facts don’t support that. The facts don’t support criminal homicide,” TMZ reported.
He continued, stating that Fleming “lost the love of his life” during the crash, and “this prosecution does nothing to advance the interests of anyone.”
Fleming was a top football recruit from Pennsylvania’s Southern Columbia Area High School. He began his college career at Ohio State before transferring to Penn State to be closer to home.
