The upcoming A Different World sequel series at Netflix will have original stars among the cast.

Deadline reports that Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Darryl Bell and Cree Summer will return to the world of Hillman University in the new series, reprising their prior roles. In the original series, Guy and Hardison played Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne, the rich southern belle and middle-class former ladies’ man who eventually become the series’ main couple. Bell played Ron Johnson, Dwayne’s best friend, and Summer as Freddie Brooks, the earthy, alternative girl who eventually becomes Ron’s girlfriend.

The new series is led by showrunner and executive producer Felicia Pride. Debbie Allen, who became synonymous with the original series as producer and director, will also executive produce. She will also direct three of the 10 episodes, including the premiere.

Pride and Allen released a statement about the original cast members coming back, saying, “A Different World is back!!! YAY!!!”

“We are over the moon to bring this much-anticipated sequel with our returning legacy stars Kadeem Hardison, Jasmine Guy, Cree Summer and Darryl M. Bell!” they continue. “These beloved characters are returning in a major way that respects their history while engaging exciting storylines that are relevant to issues of today.”

They also said that viewers will be able to see how the original cast’s characters “have evolved,” also teasing that “more cast surprises” will be in store for fans.

“We can’t wait for lovers of the show to experience this new chapter as a real continuation of the legacy show, and we’re excited to welcome new audiences to Hillman,” they said.

Who are the new stars for ‘A Different World’?

The new series stars Maleah Joi Moon as Deborah Wayne, the youngest daughter of Whitley and Dwayne. She heads to Hillman as a freshman and, according to the show’s description,” finds he shadow of her parents difficult to escape.” She starts creating her own legacy while having fun at Hillman with a new class of characters.

Also set to star are Chibuikem Uche, Cornell Young, Jordan Aaron Hall, Alijah Kai and Kennedi McClure.
