How To Watch The NBA Opening Night Games On Tuesday – Blavity

The 2025-2026 NBA season tips off Tuesday night under the league’s new media deal, which brings new broadcast partners and more ways for fans to watch every game.

The new 11-year media agreement comes after the NBA inked long-term contracts with Amazon, NBCUniversal (NBC/Peacock), Disney (ABC/ESPN) and Amazon (Prime Video) in July 2024, ending its 34-year partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of TNT, according to Forbes at the time.

This is the first time since 2002 that NBC will air both regular-season and postseason games. The network will broadcast games every Tuesday evening, in addition to Sunday nights after the NFL games wrap up, per Forbes. Peacock will also exclusively air Monday night games.

Here’s everything sports fans need to know about the new season, including the doubleheaders that kick off Opening Night, the weekly schedule for each network, the number of regular-season and postseason games each will air, and the special tournaments and championship matchups.

Each broadcasting network has its own doubleheader matchups

The season opens Tuesday night with an NBC doubleheader: defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder hosts the Houston Rockets, followed by the Golden State Warriors visiting the Los Angeles Lakers, according to NBA.com.

ESPN and ABC follow the next night with their own doubleheader, with the Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs, and later the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New York Knicks.

On Friday, Prime Video will air coast-to-coast doubleheaders featuring the Knicks vs. Celtics and Timberwolves vs. Lakers in Los Angeles.

How many games will air on each network?

NBC and Peacock will air 100 regular-season games, 28 games in the first two rounds of the playoffs, and one of the conference finals in six of the 11 years, while also becoming the new home of NBA All-Star weekend, which previously aired on TNT and its sister networks, per NBA.com.

ABC and ESPN continue their long-standing NBA coverage, broadcasting 80 regular-season games, the NBA Finals, and key events like the highly anticipated Thanksgiving Eve triple-headers and Christmas Day matchups.

Prime Video streams 66 games, including the Emirates NBA Cup Knockout and Championship, the Black Friday matchups and the six-game SoFi NBA Play-In Tournament.

NBA League Pass is another option for fans who want to watch their favorite teams. The subscription service offers all games that are not nationally televised.
