Halle Berry shared a major milestone achieved by her daughter Nahla. The 17-year-old received an early acceptance letter into college.

The Oscar winner took to social media to share a rare glimpse into her family life. On Monday, she took to Instagram to publicly congratulate her daughter.

“Congratulations to my sweet Angel Nahla for her early college acceptance!” she wrote in an Instagram Story, according to Vibe. 

The post featured a pink cake with “You did it Nahla!!” written in white icing. The cake was placed in a box labeled “Today is the sweetest day.”

In June, Berry, who’s 59, shared that Nahla would be attending a college summer program: “She’s 17. She’s going to a college summer program, the college that she’s hoping to go to next year,” she said during a June appearance on Today with Jenna & Friends. “She’s going away this year to the college summer program.”

Berry added that she is excited for her daughter to start her new academic journey despite the fact that she would be moving out. 

“I’m not one of these moms that feels like, ‘Oh, she’s leaving.’ Yes, will I worry? Of course, but am I excited for her to start her life and figure out who she’s gonna be? Absolutely,” she said. “I’m dying to see who she’s gonna be and what she’s gonna do and what she’ll discover.”

Halle Berry highlighted the importance of having a life outside of motherhood

Berry shares Nahla with her ex-partner Gabriel Aubry. She is also the mother of a 12-year-old son Maceo-Robert, whom she shares with her ex-husband Olivier Martinez, according to People. 

Berry said she wants “break that stigma” about being a working mom: “We can still be seen as good mothers, there for our children, but also, we have to be there for ourselves because these kids will grow up and move on and if we haven’t maintained a life for ourselves, then what happens?” Berry said on Today with Jenna & Friends, per People.

“What happens when our loves leave the house? What have we built for ourselves? So I think it’s really important to keep your love life, keep your career, keep the things that make you you, your hobbies, your passions, whatever it is,” Berry added. “Keep those alive while you’re also being a mom.”

She also had some words of wisdom for her children when she received the People’s Icon Award at the 2021 People’s Choice Awards. 

“My two little kids, they have to lose so much time with their mommy because I get to go work and do what I love, so thank you Nahla, thank you Maceo — I hope you find something in life that you can love and you can do with as much vigor and as much zest as I do what I do. I love you guys,” Berry said.
