Everything To Know About Teyana Taylor’s Emotional Golden Globes Acceptance Speech – Blavity

Teyana Taylor was one of the biggest winners at Sunday night’s 2026 Golden Globe Awards, earning her first nomination and her first win for her performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s black comedy action thriller One Battle After the Other.

Other awards for Black talent and/or films include Sinners winning Best Score and the award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

During Taylor’s emotional acceptance speech, she encouraged “brown sisters and little brown girls” watching to embrace their vulnerability as their superpower.

Taylor reminded young Black women, ‘We belong,’ and ‘Our voices matter’

According to Elle, after giving attendees a look at the back of her custom Schiaparelli haute couture cut-out gown, a teary-eyed Taylor, who won the night’s Best Supporting Actress Award, thanked her collaborators and “tribe” for reminding her “that love is an action, not just a word, and everything I do is rooted in that truth.”

She also thanked Anderson — “Thank you for your vision, your trust and your brilliance” — before thanking her One Battle After the Other costars and “every single person who has touched this project.”

She concluded her speech by sharing a powerful message to young, Black women and girls watching her big win.

“To my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight, our softness is not a liability,” she said. “Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.”

Taylor beat Emily Blunt, nominated for The Smashing Machine, Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas for Sentimental Value, Ariana Grande for Wicked: For Good and Amy Madigan for Weapons.

Anderson, Timothée Chalamet and Rhea Seehorn are also first-time winners

Taylor wasn’t the only first-time winner at Sunday night’s event. Anderson’s two Golden Globes for best director and best screenplay marked his first time winning at the awards ceremony. He was previously nominated for penning 2021’s Licorice Pizza.

Following his big win at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Timothée Chalamet won his first Golden Globe for his leading role in Marty Supreme. Pluribus star Rhea Seehorn took home her first Golden Globe for her performance in the Apple TV drama, besting fellow nominees including Kathy Bates and Helen Mirren.
