Rapper Max B is officially a free man.
According to the Daily Mail, the 47-year-old “Why You Do That” emcee was released from prison after serving 16 years for his involvement in a fatal armed robbery. The rapper, whose real name is Charley Wingate, was arrested in 2007 on manslaughter and armed robbery charges. He was convicted two years later and was sentenced to 75 years in prison.
He was re-sentenced to 20 years by a New Jersey judge as part of a new plea deal in 2016, after pleading guilty to aggravated manslaughter, XXL reported.

Max B shared an emotional reunion with longtime collaborator French Montana
He was released from custody at Northern State Prison in Newark, New Jersey, on Sunday. Video footage of his release shows the rapper meeting a large group of people, one of them being his longtime collaborator French Montana, who he teamed up with on the Coke Wave mixtape series.
In the video, the rappers share a long hug while someone else in the group places a large diamond chain around his neck.
French Montana shared a clip of the special moment on social media.
“CANT MAKE THIS UP ! MY BROTHER REALLY CAME HOME ON MY B DAY ! HAMDULILLAH WALKED IT DOWN ! NO MORE FREE YOU ,” he captioned the post.

His release comes after the rapper forecasted his release on The Joe Budden Podcast earlier this year, Daily Mail reported.
“I’m feeling righteous, man. I’m doing all right. This is almost over. … Wavy Baby coming home real soon,” he said during a phone interview on the show.
While incarcerated, he continued to make music and dropped projects like 2021’s Negro Spirituals, 2020’s Charkey, 2019’s House Money and Coke Wave 4 (Arm & Hammer), 2014’s Vigilante Season, 2011’s Biggaveli and more, XXL reported.
Max B spent his first day out at the New York Jets game
He celebrated his first day of freedom by attending a New York Jets game in New Jersey. During an interview with The People Gallery’s Maurice Kamara, he commented on getting out of prison.
“Fresh out the can off a 18 stretch,” he said. “They gave me 75, but I’m back.”
He went on to talk about his Louis Vuitton outfit and shared he felt “good” and “grateful” to be home.

Max B seemed to tease new music on social media
In a social media post, the rapper seemed to tease new music on the horizon.
“ITS TIME TO OPEN THE FLOOD GATES SEE YALL IN A FEW,” he wrote.
Max B, who will be on five years of supervised release overseen by the state of New York, also shared on social media that he has several club appearances lined up, per XXL. He kicked them off at the Harbor in New York City on Sunday.
