Elon Musk’s New ‘Grokipedia,’ A Wikipedia Competitor, Promotes Far-Right Rhetoric – Blavity

Billionaire Elon Musk has launched a new AI-powered alternative to Wikipedia. Musk, who has cultivated conservative content on his X social media platform and promoted artificial intelligence, has framed Grokipedia as a superior and politically neutral collection of knowledge. Early reports, however, indicate that Grokipedia appears to be slanted toward promoting a far-right, Musk-friendly agenda with right-wing talking points.

Musk touts launch of Grokipedia

Grokipedia launched on Monday, fulfilling a claim Musk recently made that his xAI team was developing an alternative to the popular online encyclopedia. In a tweet that remained pinned to Elon Musk’s X profile as of Tuesday morning, the billionaire describes his motives for launching the new site: “The goal here is to create an open source, comprehensive collection of all knowledge.”Alluding to his role as head of the company SpaceX, Musk further claims that he will “then place copies of that etched in a stable oxide in orbit, the Moon and Mars to preserve it for the future.”

Nice work by the @xAI team on https://t.co/op5s4ZiSwh!The goal here is to create an open source, comprehensive collection of all knowledge. Then place copies of that etched in a stable oxide in orbit, the Moon and Mars to preserve it for the future. Musk also retweeted multiple messages about Grokipedia, which is named after the Grok AI that Musk integrated into X, formerly Twitter. One of these retweets declares, “Elon just dropped the beta of Grokipedia. Powered by 𝕏 and xAI, the platform promises open, uncensored information, his answer to Wikipedia.”

Conservative-leaning content, praise for Musk, criticism for his rivals

Despite Musk promoting Grokipedia as a superior and unbiased alternative to Wikipedia, early analysis by several news outlets found that the site appears to emphasize conservative opinions and talking points. Wired reported that the entry on slavery in the United States includes a section on “ideological justifications” for slavery and criticizes the 1619 Project, an examination of the history and impact of American slavery that has been a target of right-wing politicians for years. A search for “gay marriage” produces no article on the subject but offers suggestions such as “gay pornography,” arguing that pornography was a major driving force behind the spread of HIV/AIDS in the 1980s. The Grokipedia entry on “transgender” reflects a similar conservative bent, including using the derogatory term “transgenderism.”

In addition to conservative viewpoints, Grokipedia appears to promote Musk himself. Wired noted that the Grokipedia entry on Musk is nearly 11,000 words long, 3,000 words longer than the corresponding Wikipedia entry. The New York Times reported that the Grokipedia profile of Musk’s uses complimentary language to describe him as someone who “blends innovative visionary with irreverent provocateur” and notes minute details about his life, such as his fondness for donuts and diet soda. Grokipedia also takes pointed shots at Musk’s business rivals. It criticizes Parag Agrawal, the former CEO of Twitter, for failing to crack down on bots on the site — a complaint Musk has made since taking over the company. Wired noted that a search for Sam Altman, CEO of the rival artificial intelligence company OpenAI, returns a critical entry on Altman’s brief removal from the company’s board of directors as its top result.

X users tweet their opinions of Grokipedia

On X, users have discussed the merits of Grokipedia, with Musk supporters praising the new site and critics pointing out flaws. One claims that “Grokipedia rips off directly from Wikipedia, word for word, formatting, structure, the whole thing,” posting side-by-side screenshots of the Grokipedia and Wikipedia entries for the “Miller effect,” a technical electronics term, as an example.

The Grokipedia entry on George Floyd has garnered discussion on X. A Musk supporter praised Grokipedia for adding “nuance and detail” to the Floyd entry, which begins by describing him as “an American man with a lengthy criminal record”; the Wikipedia entry, by contrast, opens by describing Floyd as “an African American man who was murdered by a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota.”

Note the difference between Wikipedia's first paragraph on George Floyd compared to the first paragraph from Grokipedia. The nuance and detail on Grokipedia is FAR superior to Wikipedia and is clearly not pushing any ideologies, unlike Wikipedia. Another user claimed that even X’s Grok AI criticizes Grokipedia, showing a screenshot that appears to be a Grok summary of biases and flaws in Grokipedia’s entry on Floyd. The apparent Grok screenshot criticizes Grokipedia for bias, saying that “by leading with and detailing Floyd’s criminal past extensively, the page discredits him personally,” and “this is irrelevant to the legal determination of homicide” concerning his death.

If you put a page from Grokipedia through Grok and asked for the flaws and logical fallacies in the page, it will give you ALL of the flaws. This is embarrassing. pic.twitter.com/iwMSLGEuq6— Jack Beers (@waytoomuchbeer) October 28, 2025

As more users use the new Grokipedia, debate over its quality and agenda is likely to grow, including on X. While Musk has claimed he’s promoting an unbiased alternative to Wikipedia, early results from his new AI-generated site suggest Grokipedia has embedded biases and agendas.
