Deion Sanders Says He Was ‘In Tears’ About Shedeur’s NFL Debut – Blavity
Deion Sanders was overcome with emotion when he watched his son, Shedeur Sanders, make his NFL debut on Sunday for the Cleveland Browns. The proud father said he couldn’t watch the game because he was working at a football camp, but his other son, Deion Jr., called him to tell him about Shedeur’s debut.
“I was in tears,” Deion told reporters at the camp, per The Athletic. “(He) called me screaming, ‘Man, I’m crying right now! Can you leave me alone? Leave me alone, leave me alone.’”
Shedeur came into the game in the second half after starter Dillon Gabriel left with a concussion. Sanders completed four of 16 passes for a total of 47 yards as the Browns lost to the Baltimore Ravens 23-16. Still, it was a moment that Shedeur and his family will never forget.
Shedeur Sanders was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2025
In 2025, Shedeur entered the NFL after playing two years of college football at Colorado, where his dad was the head coach. The Browns selected Shedeur in the fifth round of the 2025 draft.
The rookie quarterback started the season third on the depth chart, behind Joe Flacco and Gabriel. Gabriel became the starter after the Browns traded Flacco.
A young fan caught Deion Sanders off guard
While watching his son’s NFL debut, a young fan at the football camp asked Deion if he wants Shedeur to play for a different team.
“You’re trying to take me viral,” Deion told the fan, per The Athletic. “I’m going to stay away from that one. That’s a good one.”
Deion later asked the fan why she would ask that to which she replied, “I just wanted to get your opinion.”
“Wow, is she cute,” Deion said, referring to the little girl. “I meet with the media Tuesday. Can you come with me?”
